Living Under One Sun is running a two-day Beekeeping course that will teach you everything you need to know to set up and look after your own hive. The course is taught by their very own ‘bee whisperer’ Ian Bailey who has been a beekeeper for the last 16 years and runs 30 urban hives across the capital. The course will be based around Living Under One Sun’s own beehives, so there will be a chance to meet the bees, but most of the course is theoretical.
The theory course will be followed by weekend drop-in sessions where you can get hands-on experience in looking after the bees throughout the year, including helping out with the August harvest.
Over the course you will cover:
Where: Living Under One Sun Community Allotment
When: Saturday 22nd April, Saturday 29th April + weekend drop in sessions from May to August
Cost: £150 (concessions £110). Drop in sessions £10 or £5 for course attendees (£4 concession)
If you feel that this is too much for you, please contact the office as LUOS offers some training events in return for time spent volunteering on their projects.
Please note:
LUOS carries out a limited amount of trading activity which includes the provision of a number of places on training courses for residents on higher incomes, for which a fee is charged . All income raised from these activities is used to fund services free of charge for public benefit. Some specialist training courses have course fees which apply to residents on higher incomes, these are used to meet tutors fees and the costs of future courses. No charges are made to disadvantaged residents on low or modest incomes.
We were delighted to welcome the Bishop of London, the Rt Revd & Rt Hon Richard Chartres and Martin Bashir, BBC News Religious Affairs Correspondent to Hale Village this week to do some filming. As well as the Engine Room, the BBC crew filmed in St Francis Church, currently being fitted out ready to open this year.
This spring, RIFT will host a six-week season of 1990s inspired theatre, talks, screenings and parties at their venue STYX in Tottenham Hale. They have brought together award winning directors and theatre makers to stage three classics of 90s theatre; Blasted, by Sarah Kane; Normal, by Anthony Neilson; and The Skriker, by Caryl Churchill.
These shows defined a generation of theatre writing in a time before broadband; a time of scrunchies, alcopops, opal fruits and in-yer-face. RIFT will take the opportunity to drop their prices to 1990s rates, play 1990s music, and embrace 1990s fashion — all in an ex-ambulance depot in Tottenham.
Hale Village residents can receive a third off their tickets using the promo code HOMEIMPROVEMENTS. Tickets are selling fast so book sooner rather than later! Check out styx.space for the full programme of events and to book.
Our primary focus in the management team is to maintain the high standards of Hale Village as a brilliant place to live. We’re always looking for feedback and ideas from you to improve the things that matter – including the environment and outdoor space, the facilities, how you feel around the village, and where there may be opportunities to make changes.
We want to hear from everyone in the village – and to make this possible we’ve invested in an award-winning web platform that will connect you directly to the Hale Village Management team. People’s comments are shown on a map of the village which everyone can access and see.
The platform is called Commonplace, and allows you to give your views and comments on the village quickly, easily and whenever convenient. Whether it’s suggestions to improve something around the Village or to highlight a concern or problem, we would like to hear from you!
Try it out now – tell us what you think about the village! It will only take a couple of minutes, and will give us valuable information to help make the village a better place for you.
Simply go to a web browser on your computer or smart phone and type Halevillage.commonplace.is.
You’ll be asked a couple of questions about yourself, then place a pin in the map and make your comment.
We look forward to your ideas.
